As long as I breathe, I attack.
Turned into Springfiled road today and the council have done the usual trick of top dressing the road with a good half inch of loose gravel !,

Similar story near me but after a few days there's more gravel on the pavement than on the road which feels safer again now.

Agh, I hate it when councils cheap out and do that! Surely road repairs should as safe as the normal road surface for all road users, terrible stuff on a motorcycle luckily I've not come across much of it on my bicycle.

We had our whole estate done in that micro asphalt which is nice to ride on but they left the speed bumps so there is an inch or so gap in-between, makes for a nasty jolt. Had my first clipless moment on a road with loose chippings.

Same here in Dorset.. they lay it, and then less than a week later the busy traffic areas have had it all stripped away down to the original surface and the gravel ends up in the gutter and down the centre line. Why do they think that this is a good idea?

A cheap way to extend the life of the asset. There was a time when it was only ever used in small patches to repair the surface, 'jet-patching' we used to call it. Lots of roads round here done, and I got caught out on a downhill on Monday (if anybody here does Crimp Hill in Old Windsor be careful as it has been done half way down so catches you out).

Several long sections (over a 2 miles each) of my commute/ride over to my parents' home have also been done. They are now at the stage of road markings up the middle being put in, but the sides are lethal and staying anywhere near the side of the road in certain bends is impossible and exceptionally dangerous where the chippings are piled inches deep at the side of the road coming out into the road by well over a metre on some of the bends. Both roads are NSL roads as well just to add to the fun.

I am also peppered in small stone sized bruises down the right side of my body and have actually taken to cursing the lorries (and less often cars) that are really generous and give me loads of room when overtaking me, because they are currently the worst offenders for sending stones flying back at me! I know they can't win, but my bruises are making me look like a domestic abuse victim at the moment!

(they are both sections of the A533 1) the road through Bostock Green, from the A533, which then becomes the A533 further on running all the way to the A54 junction - and the other is Booth Lane in Middlewich running all the way into Sandbach - also the A533)

And here, 6 months later and the signs have gone up to say they are doing it again. Big areas where it is completely missing. I will see tonight on the way home. Looks like my route will change.

Round here when they do that they put signs up saying Loose surface, don't exceed 20mph.

Of course, that is never an issue with me anyway...

Yes, It was done yesterday, so a different route in this morning. Makes nice change though. I noticed that they had used very fine chippings, a lot smaller than the last time they did the road 6 months ago. So it was a bit of very slow pavement riding last night (sorry ). We will see how long this "papering over the cracks" solution lasts this time.
