Revolutionary new crankset?

Nope. It's more complex that the simplest answer, ie the normal crankset. Additioanlly, therefore, more to go wrong. Solution looking for a problem, as usual.
Have these people never heard of Occam's Razor?

A marginal gain perhaps, except it'll be heavy and prone to failure.

I think, logically - if you combine oval chainrings, L-shaped cranks & these new-fangled waggly cranks, the system would be so devastatingly efficient you wouldn't actually need to pedal at all.

I have just rendered the electric bicycle obsolete. Off to start a crowd-funding campaign.

Wasting the energy from one leg to advance the crank for the other does nothing more than introduce inefficiencies. I'd rather have some imaginary dead sport than waste 15% of each revolution waving cranks about.

It says cyclists will be aware of the problem of the so-called dead zone.

Is there a problem? Yes one needs to push a bit to move off but after that? Can't say I've ever been aware of a problem.
