I think, logically - if you combine oval chainrings, L-shaped cranks & these new-fangled waggly cranks, the system would be so devastatingly efficient you wouldn't actually need to pedal at all.

I have just rendered the electric bicycle obsolete. Off to start a crowd-funding campaign.

i knew on seeing the thread title that this was started by @Cycleops !

are you going to be collecting all these together into a book/blog?
There does seem to be rather a lot of 'innovative' designs of late.
I feel a bit sorry for the old boy as hes obviously very clever but living in a different age when mechanical trickery was the way to go but I'm afraid these days all cyclists seem to want is gadgetry of the electronic kind. Look at Di2 and all that connects to your smartphone or plots the route for you, the lock that tells you your bike is being tampered with etc etc.
I just don't see the appeal in today's market. If you want to make your bike easier to pedal you get an electric conversion.
