Rather than riding Lejog - again - I have almost decided to ride the 2025 LEL route as a tourist next May. Taking the Elizabeth Line from Heathrow to Liverpool Street then LNER to Chelmsford, staying in Chelmsford for a day to get over jetlag then heading north then back again to Chelmsford along the eastern side of Britain will not only make a nice change, but will simplify logistics.

Go for it sounds fun and not too hilly to start with.

I fancy the coastal loop of the UK. If I get made redundant at any time I'm off!!

3 months possibly!

Sounds a great exped. How many days are you allowing?
Worth considering adopting the Guildhall start rather than trekking out to Chelmsford, but I guess the first ten miles getting to countryside is designed for 6am on a Sunday morning, which is not a touristy way to start.
I'd offer a couple of route variations for you to consider.
In Duxford (61km) go right and then cross the main A505 road when it's single at a pedestrian crossing rather than where they set up marshalling, and straight on to Whittlesford.
I'd go through Cambridge (after Trumpington) rather than b****ing around either side of the M11 and pick up the 'guided busway' - an LEL feature in several previous years - from Girton for a few miles to the B1050 (just N of Northstowe).

Nice idea. Just note that some of the route has long stretches without anywhere to stop in so you'll need to plan stops carefully.

Take enough for for the day. Places like beattock can feel quite remote but a good rider can get from one town to another in a day.
