I went up a lumpy dropped kerb this evening on my road bike and took a chunk out of one side of the rear rim. It's about 3mm in diameter, but not deep. I've smoothed off the rough edge and it's now riding and braking ok.

Would you carry on riding on it?

probably. Got a pic of it?

What kind of rim is it? some have better structure anyway and will probably remain intact with quite a few chunks out of them.

You've done the right thing by rounding the edges - just make sure it's not cracked and regularly inspect to make sure it stays that way.

    Ask yourself this...
Is your life worth less than the cost of a new rim?

You can carry on riding it but make sure your Life Insurance is up to date.
