Rim Life

Just ordered a set of Mavic Ksyrium wheels. The rims are made of 'Maxtal'. Can anyone tell me what brake pads would be best to prolong the life of the rims?

Thanks!

1800 miles per rim  where have you been riding your bike jimbhoy? Or have you got something in your pads?

I managed to get just under 6000 road miles (in all conditions) out of my Mavic's (Aksiums) before they were retired to the turbo.

Even my less well maintained hybrid got over 6000 miles before the stock Alex burst.
They went back on as a temporary measure, Id guess the rear saw 8,000 miles but not as good as the stock Quasar rear which got nearly 12,000.

I've never been particular and there are a lot more variables involved but most of my mileage on my Quasar wheels (about 9600mles) was done with Ultegra pads, they seemed to be rim friendly although there not the best for stopping. I ran Aztec dual compound for the first 6000miles with the Mavic Aksiums, they seem to offer a good balance between Longevity and stopping power. In the latter life of both rims I was running Koolstop and Swisstop initially, much better at stopping but pad life was low and whilst the rims did wear out too but at their age I can't blame it on the pads. Recently due to finances (hopefully resolved) I've used cheap BBB's blocks and single compound Aztecs block; stopping is pretty poor and its too early to comment on rim life other than the Planet X rims are still OK after 1500miles.

Thanks for that.

Mavic website doesn't have contact details to ask the question. Ended up calling a local supplier to see what they thought. The chap said that standard Shimano 105 pads would be fine. For peace of mind I may buy new pads, but by the sound of it, because they're not carbon rims, they're less fussy.
