RLJ - Taxi Drivers' video

How many times have we seen them whizz through the lights when peds are crossing though. Now peds don't expect cyclists to stop.
It irks me a bit when I'm out and about that peds do that (no fault of their own); when if they had crossed initially I wouldn't have even had to stop or unclip!

I'm only surprised it has taken this long for a video of cycling RLJ's to make an appearance. There have been innumerable YouTube ones from cyclists [including some on here] showing driving muppetry, now we have "evidence" from the other side, every time I saw a cyclist go through the lights at red I cringed and gave up watching after about 15 mins. The difference of course is that cyclists as a rule don't kill people, they can however cause accidents.
The problem I have is that a significant number of road users across the spectrum have little or no respect for the law and the whole thing is becoming a big sorry mess and a tit for tat, a sad reflection on the society we live in. I don't know the answer, particularly in London, but I do know that unless we put our own house in order we are on a very shaky platform from which to throw stones. I don't see this happening any time soon, but do expect more videos of cyclists behaving badly.

Anybody jumping a red light in whatever vehicle is a moron (except in extreme safty first scenarios). There is no reason for cyclists to jump the lights and those that do are giving us all a bad name.

Car drivers would do so more if they could, of that I have no doubt, but we are on th eroads and have to follow the code as well.

I'd like to see similar stats on close passes, crossing double white lines, driving on the wrong side of the road, blocking cycle lanes, dangerous overtakes and cut ins, verbal abuse/assaults etc.

But the one I would find funniest would be a survey on 'road tax' per vehicle type.

I know where my towel is
I don't like it when people RLJ.

However, it annoys me more that I have to put up with tailgating, engine revving, horn tooting, speeding, parking in cycle lanes, close passes, vehicles looking to amber gamble (even though I am in front of them and looking to stop) and so the list goes on.

Despite me trying my best to be a sensible law abiding cyclist I still have to put with this crap.
I could pull out at least one dodgy manouvere every day from my camera, it will not stop me cycling, but it is starting to wear a little thin...

Every one on the road needs to wake up and look at what they are doing to others around them.

I get really f*d off with these drivers who talk about "respect", but then don't blink or think twice about doing 50mph in a 30mph zone...

Who are the ones killing thousands each year again..?

I'm sure if i had a speed camera i could sit on a bridge over the M74 south of glasgow or the M8 around Livingston and record over 50% of motorist speeding.

I'm sure people equally wouldn't be surprised.

Does that mean i believe motorist deserve to die? no.

I'm neither defending nor condoning but the only vaguely dangerous cycling manoeuvre I noticed is on the Hackney Road vid, right at the end, when a cyclist moves slightly into the path of a vehicle starting on green from behind the ASL

No they're not. The argument that other cyclists' rule breaking means all of us are less deserving of respect or safe treatment is pernicious and idiotic.

Do all motorists have a bad name because some speed, jump reds and drive with mobiles? No. Arguments suggesting collective responsibility are wrong and stupid.

Sorry but they do give us a bad name. To argue otherwise is wrong and stupid. Do we deserve less respect or safe treatment because of it? Of course not but that's not the issue. The point is that these w*****s RLJing do give all of us a bad name and because of it we get less respect. Start a conversation at work or down the pub with a non-cyclist and it's fairly sure that at some point RLJing will be raised and it will be assumed that we all do it unless prove otherwise. That's why we need to beat these people with a rusty metal bar until they stop.

I couldn't disagree more. People who dislike cyclists would do so even we all behaved perfectly. It's an excuse.

How will we ever find out until we get rid of the idiots? I tend to find that once I get past the "Do you RLJ" question most people I speak to actually have a fair bit of respect for what I do on a bike.
