Cadence, its all about cadence! Anyway it was for me switching from a triple Hybrid to a compact carbon, looking back at ealry slouchy first rides it was 70-75rpm, run at 80-95rpm now, spin it up! :-)

I have a Rockhopper (bit newer - 2010 model), and I've just ordered a Defy 2 - we have the same mounts in our stable! I suspect the Defy is going to be much, much faster, but the then I've got great big fat winter nobby nics on my Rockhopper. Awesome in the forest, painfully slow on the road.

Dump the 1.5 City Slicks, get something fat to replace them on the Rockhopper, and go and enjoy the muddy stuff, and it will make the Defy seem faster too! ^_^

The Glue that binds us together.
Over 10 miles i average 12mph, on the road bike over 50 miles 16mph average, never really do more than 10 miles on the mtb, so i don't know what the average would be on a 50 mile ride, probably about 10 if that.
