Road bike Brake Cable on a Hybrid (vees)

I changed my front brake tonight on the hybrid (vee's) unfortunately I had run out of cables with vee brakes stops (or what ever there called, the flat round bit at the right end of the cable below, instead I used a road bike one (type at the bottom left end) it seems fine but is it likely to cause a problem?

I've done the reverse for a short period, the V brake end didn't sit well in the road lever. LBS advised me it would be prone to excessive wear and potentially snapping. But the end stopped the cable inserting properly so it sat proud of the slot. If this isn't the case in reverse, or it doesn't look like it could cause fraying then you should be fine. It is the same cable after all.
