Hey guys, come on stop hurling insults at each other.
The real k**b in this is the inconsiderate motorist that thinks it is ok to hurl abuse at someone just because they are driving a car and think they own the road.
Its even bigger to abuse a woman with a kid and set a great example to your own kids.
It is a shame an idiots actions have got fellow cyclists having a pop at each other.

Verbal abuse doesn't bother me one bit. Every single motorist could hurl every bit of abuse at me under the sun. But the second that someone uses their vehicle to put me in danger, or worse a kid in danger... I'm getting wound up just thinking about it.

With regards to the bickering, I think we all get a bit sick of the "cycling is suicidal" brigade, who have the idea that even going near a road is 50/50 chance of death. Coupled with a "think of the children" attitude, it grates a bit.

Care to tell the rest of us how many accidents from the rear have involved child trailers?
Please answer this. I googled it, and could only find the same sort of "trailers are obviously dangerous" rants, but no statistics to back it up.

If you can't supply them, then please stop attacking the OP for endangering her children. That is a terrible accusation, and much worse than the driver's attack described above.

Gets what it deserved.

I don't argue with the lower intelligensia.

This is an interesting post. The word would normally be spelt 'intelligentsia', but there may now be other accepted spellings. The intelligentsia as a social group or class are not usually divided or stratified into 'lower' and 'upper' elements. By definition, membership of the intelligentsia implies a degree of erudition or learning sufficient to engage in rational argument or debate. I may have missed a joke here. Not for the first time.

I too was glad to read that another driver intervened to pour oil on a potentially nasty tiff.

I considered a trailer (for shopping, not children) but was put off by the way I saw some drivers treating them. I have friends who ferry kids in them and they seem generally happy with other road users, but it wasn't for me.

What I do find odd is the frequency with which one sees the comment on these pages "You did well to restrain yourself! If it had been me I'd have lamped the ****!"

These comments are sometimes supported by mention of the height and weight of the (usually male) author and some mention of an Eastern martial art. I oughtn't to write this, but I can't help thinking that these comments are written by people like me, who would no more start a street fight than they would eat a raw hedgehog. The Internet is a funny place to beat one's chest.

Bottom line: I'm glad there was no real altercation, glad no-one was hurt and good for the supporting driver!

I ave no idea, I was asked what my opinion was - I gave it, you dont have to agree

as I said in my original post if you care to read it, it is the OPs choice

I dont have an agenda here, just an opinion, I didnt realise it had to agree with yours

who exactly attacked the OP? as it wasn't me, and to say it is worse the the drivers attack is complete and utter bollocks - I doubt my opinion would put anyone in danger

Why would you put your kid at risk in one of those, putting yourself out there is one thing, them trailer things should be kept for off road, canal paths were your child would be safe.
So taking one on the road is unsafe but cycling along a large body of water with a child strapped in to a metal frame is safe?
i mean if the bike pops too near the edge of the canal the trailer could go in and then it all gets pretty horrifying...

I take my kids to a restaurant. They eat and get ill.

Who put them at risk? Me, for taking them out for a meal?

Or the dangerous idiots in the management and kitchen who don't give a flying **** for legislation, basic health procedures, care and respect for the customer, or anything else except their personal greed, and any short cuts they can possibly take to make even more money?

I was not putting my kids at risk by taking them out on the road in trailers or tagalongs. Not once. Never.

I should think children are more at risk in a car than in a cycle trailer.

I didn't realise trailers went through NCAP testing

Use them or don't use them, it's the parents choice, but please don't talk rubbish
