Hi, I got a new bike in March and have ridden 800 miles so far (pneumonia stopped me for 3 weeks) and would like to ride with other people. Are cycle clubs only for road bike?

I live in west Essex and I see lots of groups of road bikes but never groups that are mixed.

I got a Marin Shoreline in March and have done 800 road miles on it so far, (I had pneumonia so off the road for 3 weeks).

I'm now up to just over 100 miles a week - 5 mile commute a day, 2 x 15 miles and 2 x 25+ miles

I'd like to ride with other people and see lots of groups on the routes I use but they are all road bikes. Can mountain bikes not join?

:welcome: from another mad cat lady
Shame you are so far away, you would fit right in our Belles on Bikes ladies group.
Why not found your own? Or join your local Breeze group?
All kind of bikes welcome!

for some strange reason a lot of road bike people would not want to be seen dead with somebody on a Mountain bike , i would suggest looking to see if there is a local ctc group as they normally have groups that ride at different levels .

Hi Mad Cat Lady from yet another mad cat lady. That's pretty impressive mileage. Whereabouts do you live in Essex?

Hi Mad_cat_lady. If you are anywhere near Harlow there are rides around here that would suit you.

I've heard some groups would even turn their noses up at hybrids or cyclocross with 700c wheels

I visit west Essex quite often and see many group rides there. If you want, check out Sky Rides in that area. On the few I've been to, they have been very welcoming, you can choose which level you'd like to ride at.

Hi and :welcome: @mad_cat_lady

Don't know much about clubs generally in your area but the Cycle Touring Club mentioned above is a good suggestion. Here is a link to their Essex group which I hope will help. If they are anything like the Shropshire group they'll let you join two or three rides before expecting you to join the club, so you'll be able to see if it suits you.
