Although the front wheel got me home the LBS have told me it's a write-off. Cue swap to my singlespeed for the rest of the winter season.

If it's just the front wheel that's knackered, can't you borrow the front wheel from the singlespeed for the time being?

Singlespeed wheels are wider and fitted for disc brakes unfortunately. I've got the original B'Twin wheels (made of cheese) i could load up but i think i'll just retire the summer bike for now - for example, it snowed today whilst i was in the office. No need to get the drivetrain all gritted up

Makes sense. Switching to singlespeed/fixed for winter is proper old school anyway.
