Back to the video - how does the pilot compose the shots? This one has some good compositions, most notably the short sequence of the cyclist riding towards the village.

Presumably they have lithium-ion batteries? How long will they last and how much will they cost to replace? What I'm getting at is: will this be a craze that conks out once owners are faced wih the first expensive battery replacement?

The pilot is watching the whole thing though his ipad. You can see at about 1.14min into the video the ipad is hooked up to the controller.

I've seen a couple of set ups where one person controls the flight and another controls the camera.

I think they get about 15-20 mins of flight with the better drones able to fly themselves back to base once a low battery alarms goes off.

He Said that it is easier to fly and film for him self beacuse the camera is his eys. He have 2 controls so he can have 1 flyer and 1 operator for the camera. I battery has 15 minutes flight time and he have bought 2 extra for 280 euro each. The hole drone cost over 3000 euro

I like it but how useful is it with bikes, unless you are travelling away from the pilot and then turn round and go back surely the drone would eventually go out of range, I suppose you could follow in a car? Nice shots though. How are the over head shots done in a cycle race these days, such as the California one I was watching earlier?

What's the worst that can happen? A drone ingested into an aircraft engine - would that stop the engine? I suppose the battery would damage the fan blades.

I can see a commercial opportunity here for clubs or individuals who fancy a video of themselves riding if they are so inclined; the craze for selfies would suggest that narcissism is now acceptable.

Someone's lost one and they won't be getting it back. It'll be going in the bin. Crushed
So you'd destroy someone's property just to make some kind of point? Don't you think it would be better to educate the person as to their responsibilities?

Juts be aware of the rules imposed by UK Govt on how to do it.

Like the rules about property ownership and criminal damage?

Great video, what is the range the drone can fly from the remote device?

I thought the same and apart from that, with everything Andy said, I would have thought he'd be keener to find the owner and educate them before they just go out and get another one. Such action undermines everything he says really.

My only comment (other than I think the technology has a lot of potential) is try to find somewhere a bit less mind-numbingly boring to ride your bike next time

I guess it was filmed at that location for experimentation as it's quiet, a nice stretch of straight road and there aren't any opposing structures such as pylons, overhead cables or tall buildings.

Judging by what bird strikes can do - shattered windscreens and destroyed engines would be entirely predictable!

I did wonder what the legalities of drone flying are. Funnily enough, I have just entered several competitions to win a drone. I was thinking that we could get some spectacular shots on forum rides on some of the descents round here. It sounds like they would have to be taken from above fields to the side of roads rather than directly over the roads themselves.

I can certainly see the point of keeping drones away from structures. The obvious risk of a 'perv cam' invasion is one thing. I saw a demo video this afternoon of a drone flying round the insulators of an electricity pylon, which is clearly asking for trouble.

They do look fun though!
