French cycling phenomenon Robert Marchand, 102, will attempt to break his own hour record at the new national velodrome on January 31, it was announced on Tuesday.

The former fireman set the previous mark in the over-100 years category - created especially for him - in February 2012 in Aigle, Switzerland, covering 24.25km in the hour."

Wow! Good luck to the old boy. So age is no longer a valid excuse for poor performance. I shall have to start thinking up a new one.
I wonder if there is a similar challenge for a 100 year old taxi driver .

he's also done 100km in 4hrs 17mins.... I don't think i could do that now and i'm a long way off 100 years old!!!

He did 24.2 km in an hour 2 years ago aged only 100. He has had 2 more years to train for it since then so the 25 should be a piece of pi$$

The veteran rider, who has staggered experts due to his fitness level and active lifestyle, covered 26.927 kilometres at the new French velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Paris."

"Marchand turned 102 last November and is mentally and physically sharp. He trains regularly, lives alone, is self-sufficient and continues to drive. He is just five feet tall (1m52), but is in superb health."
