Anyone else from Edinburgh encountered the woman walking her dog in Roseburn Park at around 6.25 - 6.30am ? She lets the extendable lead out wide as you approach and walks into your way as you slowly try to get around her and the mutt. Whilst she does this, she switches on a torch, shines it at you and says "Slow Down !"

I will put my hand on my heart and say I am almost at 'unclip and put a foot down to prevent falling over' speed as I approach her, as I see her from some way off and can see the dog lead extending across the path. I also know that she will walk into my way, so it's totally unsafe to be going at more than a walking pace.

The path is a car and a half's width wide, so there's acres of room. I think she may be a bit of a nutter. I have a feeling that trying to block an entire path and walk into a slow cyclist's way is going to eventually lead me to make some kind of comment back.

I'm not up early enough and I don't go through the park so I've not seen it but it sounds like she's being a little pedantic or something. Maybe however, she has had a genuine experience with a bad cyclist and she now over reacts.

Try "Why?" for starters. Depending on her response, one or t'other of you may moderate your behaviour.
(Or it might turn out she's just a grumpy old bint and you can tell her where to stick her torch.;))

Are you allowed to cycle through the park? If so then I'd be inclined to mention this fact, and that you are going slowly, and that if she continues to let her dog cross your path for no other reason than to annoy you that you'll be forced to either cut the lead, or report her for failing to keep her animal under control in the presence of other users of the park.

I usually cycle through the park at around that time, but haven't seen her (though I have taken the car the last couple of days). There is usually only the one dog walker around when I go through the park, and I haven't seen her for the last few weeks.

She can shine her torch at me if she wants, as long as she doesn't mind me switching my Lupine Nightmare onto full beam and point it right back at her.
