I don't understand people at all - the cyclist slows down a bit,, she and the mutt the move to the side of the path, she tells fido to sit and keeps him on a short lead, you pass, she carries on her walk, everyone's happy.

Precisely. And there's a woman who does just that most mornings on the Roseburn path between where I come on at the bottom of Groathill Avenue and off at Russell Road. I see her coming with the dog, I slow down to a walking pace and move to the right of her, she moves her dog onto the left side of the path and holds it by the collar, and we thank each other and smile and continue on our own ways.

I stopped to let two older ladies with Dogs through on my off road bit, unclipped left foot, put foot down onto grass, was actually long grass in a dip, nearly went over and they were all concerned, I hadnt fallen over but I think because I was being polite and smiling like a mentalist they wanted to mother me

If so then I'd be inclined to mention this fact, and that you are going slowly, and that if she continues to let her dog cross your path for no other reason than to annoy you that you'll be forced to either cut the lead, or report her for failing to keep her animal under control in the presence of other users of the park.

Yes, it's part of the network.

If she continues walking into my path when I'm trying to get by, I think I'm going to have to stop and ask her what's going on. And perhaps it's time I got the camera back on the helmet to catch her wee routine !

This morning, the dog was off the extendable lead and running back and forward across the path some distance in front of her. Slowed to a crawl to avoid mad, darting dog. Noticed that as I approached her, she made no attempt to walk into my way or whip out her torch.

In fact she didn't even seem to see me. I said 'Morning !' as I went by, but she didn't even notice. As there was no torch being shone at me, I DID actually get to see her face. Middle-aged and, to put it bluntly, she looked a bit simple* - which might explain the weird behaviour.

(* possibly not the most PC-way of putting it, but I couldn't think of another way to describe how she looked !)

There used to be harridan with a dog that I would occasionally meet on the cycle path that runs between the 2 golf course just north of the Barnton junction. The path joins two suburban roads and is relatively narrow. God, the woman had a dreadful attitude and I used to think - thank goodness I only meet you for a few seconds each week, I feel sorry for your poor husband.

so as she walked there defenseless and seemingly uninterested in confrontation, you should have made a preemptive strike shining your torch in her eyes!!!

... and wrapped the dog lead around her neck before attaching it back onto the dog and then chasing said dog across the park, dragging her behind it. That'd teach her to mess with The Goo. xx(

My mate Caz once observed woman on mobile phone with a dog (little flea taxi) running amok on one of those extendable leads at full extension. This was on a busy Serpentine Road in Hyde Park. He got the doggie's attention, and skated round and round the woman, wrapping her in the lead. I think he got to 5 circuits before she started paying attention, and she got really pissed off. LOL, just goes to show how stupid and oblivious people are when they are on the phone.
