She is the torch
And she is the theme
She could be a dream
But oh boy, is she real?
Try to avoid her eyes
To avoid her words

She got me!

I was cycling through the park this morning and had slowed down to pass the woman I see most mornings and she shined the torch right into my eyes. I couldn't see where I was going, and she was lucky I didn't run her over. I couldn't make out what she looked like (she had her hood up) but she is definitely the woman I see most mornings (I recognised her dog).

I didn't have my Uber light with me, so I had to just give her a bit of verbal. The light is back on the bike and she is geting full beam tomorrow.

I've not seen her now since the middle of last week. I was beginning to think that she'd been reading the forum and stayed indoors !

(Do you ride up the Telford path between Craigleith / Groathill Road South and Russell Road ? Have you noticed the dark, hooded figure that sits on the edge of what was presumably a railway platform in the mornings, swinging his (or her) legs and drinking coffee ? Sits in a dark spot, and the first time I ever caught sight of him/her I almost filled my bib-shorts !! Used to it now though.)

I come through town (along George Street, Charlotte Square, Melville Street, etc.) I used to use the cycle paths, but got fed up with all the hassle, and switched to the road.

I nearly got her this morning. Unfortunately, there was a pedestrian about 10m in front of her, so I didn't switch on my light until I passed him (and it takes a second or so for it to light). I'll get her on Friday ;)

So glad to read posting on good example of cyclist dog walker exchange and that some people do know how to behave sensibly and with courtesy. I'm sure other posters have only been trying to be humourous but really - thinking of amusing ways to attack an elderly lady just ain't that funny.
Have you thought of stopping to speak to her? She's probably had a bad experience.
I know the park well and I know there are many less responsible cyclists who hare through it and it's scarey! There are lots of older people, dog walkers and young children. We have to recognise there are places where we have to slow down.

We used to have a guy similar to this and got fed up.

So we stopped cyclists for couple of days and asked them to write to the local Police complaining that the lead across the path was difficult to see and a hazard.

About a week later he stopped using the trailing lead as the Police had had a quiet word about his behaviour.

Slightly OT

Friend of mine once caught a dog like this!

Dark, unlit cycle path, noted pedestrian on his left and pulled to the right. Simply didn't see the lead which caught the lead across the headset / brakes and ended u dragging poor mutt a few feet along the ground.

Unhappy owner, but eventually conceded the point that it was hardly a sensible way to walk a dog

Anyone else from Edinburgh encountered the woman walking her dog in Roseburn Park at around 6.25 - 6.30am ? She lets the extendable lead out wide as you approach and walks into your way as you slowly try to get around her and the mutt. Whilst she does this, she switches on a torch, shines it at you and says "Slow Down !"
Come on Goo, don't leave us on tenterhooks, I know it was 3 and a half years ago but is she still there?

Blimey, are you the old dear. Talk about "holy thread resurrection batman" ! Fight fire with fire - zap her with some big lumens !

Whoah, thread resurrection much!

I think all the people encouraging criminal damage to the lead and assault on the lady were naughty and irresponsible.

The question that should have been asked was what size was the dog, and was it bunnyhoppable?
