Happy to meet up although I'd not want to be in the book.

If none have suggested before, Loughborough Uni does feature a large collection of water pumps if such a thing takes your fancy.

I want the fame and glory of being in (another) book !

His 1000 best series is a brilliant guide to churches etc

The other thing I use is a full set of Muirhead's Blue Guides from 1926

Took me years to collect a 1926 set but it is brilliant fun looking at a town city or route from a 90 year old perspective

.... You do have a trailer for books and guides?

Thanks for that - sounds interesting. I'm short of Nottinghamshire-based suggestions but there's plenty of time.

Nottingham has some pretty old pubs, Yeah Olde Trip To Jerusalem and Ye Older Salutation Inn. One is built into the rocks under Nottingham castle, the other has caves underneath the pub.

:-) No, which is one reason for seeking recommendations. I'll decide on the day where I go in any particular county. I don't want to have too much information beforehand, just a few pointers. So far, I've got a nice mix of history, the beautiful, the weird and complete nonsense.

Been on the road for 17 days now and seen lots of lovely north west Britain. Despite rain, sleet, hail, snow and sun today, north Wales is gorgeous. Go there!

About another 150 days to go and looking forward to all of it. I didn't expect to enjoy Britain this much.

If you have any suggestions for places for me to see, please see the Route Britannia (routebritannia.com) website.

Checked out the web page but just the planned itinerary. Assume you are keeping schtum about where you actually went/what you saw, saving it for the book.

Enjoy the trip.

Oh, yes, agree, the north west is beautiful. There's bits of it where i have rounded a corner on the bike and exlaimed "oh fark" at the sheer wonder of it. A view on a road somewhere out of Chipping springs to mind. Will pm you with the odd thing when I have a mo.

Oh, question. How are you kipping? Campsites, free camping, b&b, friends?

"Fark" you will have to put through a reverse filter - a word inserted by the cc software guardian.

I'm trying to put something every day on my Route Britannia Facebook page. It's easier than messing about with HTML.

Sleeping is either campsites - I was surprised last night when another tent appeared - and with friends. Staying at my aunt and uncle's tonight.

If I ever can't find a site I'll ask a farmer but it hasn't come to that yet.

I've just seen your FB comment about the phones in Shropshire. Yes, it's slightly patchy. Travelling between Ludlow and Montgomery makes me think of the Apollo missions: "going into radio silence, see you on the other side".
