It worked better than I thought it would, the SA 3 Speed ideal for middle range leaving outside chain wheel for flatish work and a very low low with the wick turned down. It seems almost intuitive, which is a surprise. Chainwheel from the bits box and front changer NOS from EBay

I normal leave mine on the inner rear cog and just use the 3 hub gears .

And drop it on to small rear cog once conditions allow.

And i thought my My 50's Raleigh Roadster gearing was different

I think the SA hub/and 2 or 3 speed derailleur idea was thought up by the touring riders in the 40s when a 4 speed hub or a 4 speed derailleur was all the maker offered as standard. It certainly works well. Your Lenton is nice, I see it has the original dynohub. All in all British bicycle culture at at it's zenith.

Just a shame not original paint work
