Anybody noticed these strips at the Hyde Park Corner end on the cycle lanes in the park? They cross both sides of the cycle & ped shared path so no avoiding them. I supose the idea is to slow cyclists down but I can't see that working. They're a hazard in the dark and wet especially on a skinny tyre or taken at a slight angle.

Let's discourage cycling and put rumble strips all over cycle lanes, yes that's a great idea:angry:

Haven't noticed them, perhaps I miss them as I take the road west (alongside Kensington High st to the Albert memorial)...but I may take a look tomorrow (might even get it on camera if its not raining)

Yes, they are exceedingly rough and I think dangerous to cyclists. I was thinking that maybe we should publish an open letter to the parks describing their design and implementation as negligent, and asking that they alter this. Also mentioning that as the letter is public and open, it can be used in any claims by injured cyclists in the future.

Oh yes, that's probably South Carriage Drive. This cycle lane is next to Rotten Row (the sandy bit) on the north side of both Rotton Row and South Carriage Drive.

Given the number of Mr Toad cyclists I've encountered in Hyde Park I'm not altogether surprised if complaints from pedestrians have led to their introduction. Pedestrians have priority on all paths in the Royal Parks. Even those signed as cycle tracks.

If you do, you might quote this to them, just so that they are aware of their liability...

When I cycled once through Hyde Park I thought that the cycle track was a particularly slippery and treacherous surface (it was slightly damp). Seems to be heading for trouble either way.

Went up there again this morning. The rumble strips which are on the section towards the path which crosses the Serpentine road bit are particularly rough. I think anybody riding on 700c lightweight rims could get a buckled rim. Any rider new to the path who rides over them unaware in bad light/conditions could well get thrown off!

I might give this section a miss from now on and go on the road on the other side of the horse track.

Does anybody think they're also a trip hazard to pedestrians?

Nothing like encouraging people to ride bikes in the park is there:angry:

It's not the cobbles by the pedestrian crossing over SCR. There are distinct rumble strips. Ride over them and you will be in no doubt at all.
