I got some Thinsulate heated ones to start with but they didn't seem to give off much heat (though to be fair are warm enough on their own) so I have now got some warmwear ones off EBay & they are good though battery only lasts about 2 and half hours!

Heated gloves sound good for this kind of weather! Do you have a link to the supplier?

I've actually been getting on fine with some Thinsulate gloves on the 123 chilly miles that I've done wearing them this winter.

Such a shame that the weather has taken a turn for the worst again, am just popping for a quick hours blast on the bike to see what it's like cycling in a bit of snow to make sure I can cope with it on Sun. Don't mind cold just not so sure about snow! Fingers crossed, been looking forward to this since last time!!

Given the uncertainty of the weather forecast, can I suggest a start time to be decided tomorrow? It may be that we are all going to be carrying snow shovels, snow is fine, ice is not. From many, many previous outings with others in "challenging" weather, they have always actually proved to be the most rewarding rides, ones you remember and chat about for years to come.
To answer your question, if all went well we would be back by 2pm but you know how cycling works.

Ok just seen BBC forecast and if they are accurate and the roads are clear on Sunday then it is going to be a winter wonderland, cameras at the ready! Are we the only forum ride going out on the 5th?
Like you I went out today just for 10 miles, from high above Oakham Rutland Water was turquoise, first time I have seen it this way.
Nipping into Stamford tomorrow early afternoon before the snow arrives so if you are around....
Provisionally can we say 0930 Sunday then play it by ear.

Sigh.. just seen weather forecast and does look like snow during night and with such cold temperatures will be icy in morning.
I'm tempted to use my hybrid bike tomorrow rather than road. I ended up doing 30 miles on it yesterday and it grips the roads well and I feel safer on it in this weather. I think if we are doing 40 miles this time then it should be fine. A shame as finally got the road bike all sorted!! What do you think?
Yes am around early afternoon so pop in for a coffee to warm you up!

30 miles

not the woman I remember methinks. For me road bike as usual, fixed and skinny tyres. What you ride is really down to what you are most confident with but I will elaborate on that if we see you later. I will text you nearer to lunch time.

hi all im back:hello:. sorry its been so long,my computer packed up on me and all things cycling has been keeping me busy. I think it would be best that the forum ride is left till abit later in the month, i have to admit, im put of a little with the possablity of snow on the ground. I dont want to say that i will come only to see snow on the ground in the morning and not turn up. I will give this one a miss because of this but will be keeping an eye open for future rides

We'vegot an inch and a half of the white stuff here in Bourne.. probably more of it over Stamford and Oakham way as they are higher up than us. Looks like I'm going to be missing both TF fantastic little jaunt and Vike training too because of the weather!

FYI all, Snow is in abundance in Oakham atm (a good couple of inches so far and still going strong)...I've ended up booking into a B&B tonight as I came in on my motorbike this morning, and didn't wish to attempt the ride back to Leicester! (Also, I now have to be in work at 9am tomorrow  ) If I get a chance, I might pop by and say hello!

Never say never, but it's not looking good, a lot of snow here in Oakham. We walked about 3 miles through the snow tonight to and from a party and all roads were covered to a depth of around 8cm or more. Unless it thaws before midday tomorrow it will be impossible to do a meaningful ride, if not will try and get some nice pics.
Happy to do the ride next week irrespective of numbers as we ride anyway.
