I totaly agree with @sidevalve and I think that if all the lycra clad speed demon's took the trouble to help the wobbly guys & gals out with some encouraging comments and try to lead by example (good ones that is) things may just get better out on the roads for all of us, I don't like it when I have some one I don't really know behind me when in traffic (ok round here nothing like big citys) but it's still a little intimidating and I feel that may be I should try to go faster take that risk up the inside of the truck/bus.Cycling is as safe has you make it or not the choice is ours to take !

Of course, the next wobbly cyclist we meet might be doing the deliberate wobble, a fairly well-known tactic to encourage following motorists to allow more room.

Thank (insert here swearword I'm thinking but not expressing ) it's not in Glasgow!
For a start you would be pushed to find 50 cyclist on any road at any time, unless it's a Belles on Bikes outing , for a second inexperienced, wobbly cyclists take the pavements where nobody walks anyway, as it's deemed bad for your health
Jokes aside, only once I got shouted at by another cyclist, it was on a shared path, I was going a bit slower than even 5mph because of the pedestrians, he took umbrage.
Was gonna yell back at him (insert another swearword here) "take the road then", but I'm a lady, refrained

Know what you mean live rural still get pricks like that. Often come across a cycling club doing a time trial (I think) looks you get riding a mountain bike. One day I am cycling along pulling a trailer full of firewood and one of their Marshall shouts get out of the way??? And then I hear the same from behind me, now if they had said "coming past" that's the one behind me I would have braked before the corner and slowed down a bit to let him get to the corner first. Surprise surprise that's not what I did.
Is this just rural but do road cyclist look down at people on mountain bikes? You say hello to them and they ignore you specially when there in a crowd?

It's true - we don't get this sort of behaviour up here in Glasgow. Acting like a prat is likely to get you punched in the face (at least) so people generally don't tend to be too critical of their fellow road users. I regard myself as quite mild mannered by local standards but am still quite prepared to react to bullying with (appropriate) violence

What I always tell drivers is that although there are idiots in vehicles, there are also idiots on bikes too, it isn't all one sided as I'm sure some would have you believe.

That usually seems to appease situations somewhat/slightly as we then have a common cause to moan about. Reverse psychology 'n aww 'at.

It's true - we don't get this sort of behaviour up here in Glasgow. Yes I was thinking that I very rarely have any problems at all, be it from other cyclists or from drivers. Compare that with when I had to cycle a few miles in Hertfordshire a couple of years ago - I had more (albeit minor) incidents in those few miles that I think I'd had back home in about 15 years! How the hell you lot do it I'll never know!!

Not sure about the violence bit, but then, I've never been put in that situation.

I usually give a raise of the hand to most round here, and I understand that sometimes you are in the "zone", but I ride my road bike usually with a rack sometimes panniers, and I do get the distinct feeling from some of a little snobbery or maybe its my bike is a Viking, but I can still post times as good as people on bikes 10x the price (not all though), but I still say hi to the wobbly cyclist, though possibly not if they look a little too wobbly as it might disturb them, I know when I started a couple of years ago and those cyclist that were friendly enough to say as they speed past did startle me somewhat.
However most that have overtaken me over the years have said hi in a greater proportion (90%+ I would say) than I pass the going the other way, but that applies to both road and other bike users, again back to the bike v the car, we are all different, at the end of the day it really doesn't matter if someone says hi or not.

If course, it's possible everyone is just spending so much time trying to avoid potholes in driving rain that they aren't thinking about other cyclists.

In case anyone thinks Glasgow is some sort of Copenhagen like cycling paradise....
