Sad news. I only really knew Vernon via the beer thread here - I can always respect a man who loves good beer as much as he loves cycling. I did wonder why his avatar was all over the site this morning - a nice tribute, thanks, Shaun. Sorry I never got to know him better.

I have just been rooting through Vernon's postings.Looking for one of his pie lists.I found it after reading many of his wonderful posts. It's so unfair,he was so looking forward to doing many things in his retirement.
I have not been out on my road bike since last year.the first ride will be in memory of him.I am going to Otley,to buy and eat a pie, from a butcher in Otley suggested by him. There are many shops he had highlighted i am sure i will visit more than one in the years to come.
I will raise a pie to you Vernon many times in the coming years.R.I.P. BIG MAN.
Postman what a good idea. What about a Pie Day in memory of Vernon and we could all post pictures of ourselves eating a pie in locations probably allover the world.

RIP & condolences to family & all those close to him & loved him

Like so many shocked & saddened (To all so far accept my likes for all the posts)

Only met Vernon a couple of times (?) on York - (Cleethorpes) Hull FNRTTC (missed the last one as at 'that Wembley')
Like many though -met him many times on here & enjoyed his wit & wisdom

I tried to remember the last time I did see him - one maybe a couple of years ago riding down the Holderness coast - I saw another cyclist - gave customary 'nod' & got the nod back - as usual about 1/2 mile later I recognised who I had just seen  maybe for many thats the way to remember ... https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/i-hope-its-good-weather-on-monday.177604/page-2

I f I ever wrote a book this would be the cover (nicked from @HelenD123 travelogue) - hopefully sums up how he lived his life & we can live ours however big or small our journeys
