If you want to buy Assos shorts, buy Assos shorts, they are possibly worth £200 a pair, generally people who have them are positive (well I guess they would have to be at that price)...however, they are designed for skinnier folk as far as I can tell (and very creepy models)
I'm not skinny by any stretch of the imagination and I'm very happy with my Assos bibs. I have the T_Pro and TFI.Mille. they are both very different. TFI.Mille has a larger and thicker pad and the lycra is more stretching. If I were to combine both I'd have the T_Pro with the pad from the TFI.Mille.
Information on inliner by @Eddy sounds interesting.
Years ago I used to suffer from saddle sores which is not the OP suffers from. I then discovered Assos cream which made a huge different. But the biggest improvement has been a shower and a good scrub with soap before putting cycling gear on. If I shower at 7am and I'm cycling by 9am I still get in the shower. This eliminates bacteria and for me eliminates saddle sores completely.
Lots of good advice here and some might work for some people and some might not. The OP will need to find what works for him.
