I’ve noticed a pin hole in this bonded chain stay part of the frame. It looks like maybe there’s a natural gap there that they’ve filled with paint?

Should I fill back up with a blob of paint and forget?

There's movement on the lug as well.
Should there be any movement?

Bonded, you say! Carbon tube into alloy lugs? How old?

It's probably nothing, just a flaw in the suspiciously thick paint.

20 years ish. Seems good condition. Any pin hole is alarming though. Hope it’s just solvent gases have pushed through the paint.

Im always suspicious of that type of construction. Too many age related failures for my dentists liking. And that paint is making my nose twitch.

Its probably fine, but the nature of the beast, age, and the unknown reasons for that weirdly thick paint would have me getting off and pushing im afraid.

That is clearly a home done amateur paint job. The question is why they did that for a carbon frame?

What does the other seat / chain stay look like if you took identical photos?

Just from pictures I’ve seen online with the same paint design. It’s heavy only in those areas.

I’m seeing the LBS soon, I’ll ask them what they think. If it’s good to go I’ll probably just put some white sealant in the pin hole.
