Safe recharging of lights overnight

Hi.
A lot of lights nowadays are usually rechargeable via a usb lead. Some nights I often get home quite late after a bike ride and as soon as I get in ,I tend to put my lights on charge. By bedtime there often still in the process of recharging. If your lights were from a reputable shop and well known make would you leave them on overnight to recharge. You often hear of horror stories about cheap Chinese lights catching fire and I'm a little dubious about leaving mine on over night .( even though there of a good make )

Stops it spending all night trying to charge a full battery and just getting it hot which I think is a more common time for them to go wrong.

Of course, I've had a mechanical time switch catch fire... digital only for me now!

Hilarious suggestion! Why would a battery explode less violently at 2c than at RT which is 21c?

Actually the fire might consume all the oxygen inside the fridge and go out, assuming it didn't set fire to the plastic lining and shelves destroying the air tightness and admitting more oxygen. Then the intense heat of the battery fire might cause the compressor and motor to overheat but what the hell... carry on living in folklore land if it helps you sleep at night!

You could say the same for all plugin chargers, phone chargers and PSUs of which most house holds have lots of these now. There is a risk of charging anything from the wall. These cheap chinese battery packs were certainly risky but I used be more worried about the plugin charger. I have various USB lights and all get plugged and left sometimes over night. Risky yes could be, but be sensible don`t leave them on combustible material

I used to work in the hobby trade and I’ve seen many catch fire. Problems can occur when they are run down to nothing. If you notice any swelling throw it away. I’d. never charge them in the house. Outside socket is the way to go.

Part of the problem with cheaper units is down to poor charging circuits, with inadequate cut off. This leads to the battery being overcharged or charged too quickly, overheating and exploding. A good quality light will have a proper charge circuit and not have this problem, especially if it is sold through a shop rather than infamous online tat markets.

I leave my lights charging overnight from a 4 way USB charger in the bedroom, they've never been even close to warm in the morning, so I'm not worried at all. But at least if it did explode it would be close enough that I would at least know about it (Mrs C is a very light sleeper!). But if you don't feel safe charging them overnight, then don't, better safe than sorry. Or something.
