And proper training and rigourous enforcement for cyclists who behave like chumps. You can't expect motor vehicle pilots to acquiesce if cyclists themselves are free to behave the same way without risk of sanction.

This is not relevant to the discussion. It's a discussion about what can be done to reduce the danger posed to cyclists by drivers.

Just a thought for @Mattcycling: The way the questionnaire reads suggests to me that you are looking to design something which is lights and/or high visibility related. The market is currently flooded with devices of this nature which are of variable usefulness, but something that is not well catered for at the moment is a cycling lamp suitable for both town and countryside riding.

What I'd like to see is a lamp with the following:
  • A distinct dip and main-beam pattern like on a motor vehicle (not just a high and low power setting like practically all the lamps currently on the market offer).
  • Easy switching between the two settings (again like a motor vehicle, so that you can very quickly dip so as not to dazzle oncoming traffic and go back to full beam just as easily - possibly with the option of a remote switch)
  • A lamp that is practical for all-night events. (meaning a very long life battery or batteries that can be easily swapped or dynamo power input)
  • Reasonable cost. (Accessable to the average cyclist, so no more than say £50 max).
Hope this is of use.:okay:

Where does the OP say that?;

The project is about cycling safety as I still feel that there is still a lot to be done when it comes to protecting cyclists on the roads.

Oh look, it doesn't. Now there's a thing, Mickle Making things up.

In any case, such things don't seem to be an impediment to you marching off topic when it suits you to do so.

MOD NOTE:
Please don't argue about what is or is not the subject of the project and don't start being personal and rude. :headshake:
Just fill in the Questionnaire or don't - your choice.
If you want to discuss anything apart from filling in the questionnaire - you can start another thread somewhere.

Thank you. :okay:

It's an important point that needs restating. The conversation, such as it is, is about 'protecting cyclists on the road'. Which isn't about protecting cyclists from the danger posed by dragons. It's about the danger posed by drivers. It seems that whenever someone dares to mention that it's drivers that kill cyclists someone pops up to say 'yeahbut cyclists is naughty too!'. And it's bollox.
