Salad cream or mayonnaise?

I love them both but if it had to be one, it's salad cream!

Yes I know mayo as we know it allegedly originates in Menorca but it was at least known about in 1970s West Yorkshire.

The rare occasions they served salad with school dinners, there was a glass bowl on the table with a teaspoon in it containing what I now realise to be mayo. When my Mum asked me I'd had for dinner I said salad, it was ok but the salad cream was weird.

Salad Cream is far too sweet, but does have it's uses.

As to which brand, the best is Co-Op's own brand. A great eggy flavour.

I prefer salad cream as it's tangier, never really found it sweet tbh. Not tried coop's own brand but will give it a go

Agreed on salad cream. The Coop mayo is nice though, just creamier than salad cream.

I voted mayo, just because it's a bit less acidic and slightly more versatile IMHO. I do like both

I think round these parts it's Mayonnaise on the bottom because it's thicker and gloopier, then you can pour a light drizzle of Salad Cream on the top. No idea what they do in Devon or Cornwall. They are all quite mad down there.
