Salad cream or mayonnaise?

There can be only one condiment hereinafter. Which is it to be?

I think round these parts it's Mayonnaise on the bottom because it's thicker and gloopier, then you can pour a light drizzle of Salad Cream on the top. No idea what they do in Devon or Cornwall. They are all quite mad down there.

Salad cream with pasties. Or ploughmans. Mayo is still seen down here as "posh/foreign" by many of the older generation, but of course mayo is preferred by the youngsters because it is more readily served in American fast food establishments.

I do like either mayo or SC with leftover hot meals like spag bol, but only if it's leftovers, not first time around

Oi, none of that poncey middle class Mediterranean nonsense!
Yes I know mayo as we know it allegedly originates in Menorca but it was at least known about in 1970s West Yorkshire.

The rare occasions they served salad with school dinners, there was a glass bowl on the table with a teaspoon in it containing what I now realise to be mayo. When my Mum asked me I'd had for dinner I said salad, it was ok but the salad cream was weird.

but salad cream in a fish finger sandwich.

its horses for courses, sod your one or the other vote

I doubt it. It's just a me thing. Ever since Uni I've liked weird leftovers with condiments. Spag bol on toast with mayo/SC on the side is good

That definitely sounds like a student thing!
Come to think of it, I've had leftover lasagne with a spot of salad and the SC has gone well with the lasagne too. So you might be onto something!

I used to be a salad cream fan but 'Mayo'was seen as exotic, then with the wider sales of it became more widespread.

Also with a Chilli I sometimes do potato wedges and a garlic mayo dip................couldn't do that with salad cream. (BTW the 'toptip' with garlic mayo dip is dried parsley, about a teaspoon..........doesn't work with fresh parsley)
