Salt Lake City in the Good Ol' US of A is cycling and pedestrian heaven

Car drivers seemed to be very tolerant to cyclists..this helped

Don't the streets have to be a certain distance wide in SLC? I believe Brigham Young (or possibly that guy, Smith) declared it to be so and so it is so.

I'm a Mormon, so I know quite a bit about the history of SLC. I believe it would have been Brigham Young who chose what sizes the roads had to be, Joseph Smith was murdered before they got to Salt Lake. (He was in Carthage Jail)

My wife works with a woman who's a Mormon and one day she got a phone call off Donny Osmond! Seriously. No joke or nowt. Her marriage to a Mormon who'd come over here on a Mission from Utah failed and so Donny called her to sympathise. Sadly she was out but on the plus side, she's got it on an answerphone message for ever now. What a nice guy! I know they all probably are and Marie is lovely but to go out of his way like that I thought was incredible.

Ah, but can you get a beer anywhere? :hugs:

Root Beer

That's all I drank while I was in Utah.

I was in SLC in 1988 whilst bumming round Canada and the States with an Aussie mate and Midnight Oil were in town.

We managed to get tickets to the concert and then tried to get a beer somewhere! Yeah, right!

We could have joined a 'club' that would have allowed us to buy alcohol, but otherwise there was no chance.

Inside the arena, people were going round openly selling ready-made joints (in the same way that you used to be able to buy ice-cream and drinks at the cinema in the 'good old' days') and the security guards didn't bat en eyelid!

No-one was drunk, but everyone was stoned!

re Beer, it all changed once the Olympics visited the City. Now you can walk into a bar and just order a drink, no memberships or signing in. In fact SLC was one of the few times on the trip that I did heavily imbibe and pay for it in the morning (Thanks Legends Bar)
