So I have a Samsung galaxy s5 and it is by far the best phone I have ever came across. The battery power is spectacular to say the least. They phone is very functional and the display is excellent.

I have been out today for an hour and a half with music on endamondo which is recording during my ride via gps and it has only used 10% battery life. Compared to a lot of other devices I have had this has got to be one of the best for battery power in the market today.
They look very good - 2800 mAh battery and it's removable too!

I just couldn't justify the price and in the end I settled for a Nexus 5.
I have heard a lot of good things about nexus as well how do you find it. I won't be due an upgrade until next year but to be honest instead of getting rid of this phone I think I'll keep it for being out on the bike for the purpose of navigating and tracking and so on.

I really fancy one of these. I have been stuck with my iphone 4 for ages now and can't really justify an upgrade for the very little use I make of a mobile but I am getting a bit fed up with Apple stuff and the Galaxy would definitely be one I would consider if I ever make a change.

As the are planning the galaxy s6 which is out in Feb I think I would hold off buying and get it extremely cheep then. I have had apple as well but I'm not to keen on them they seem to be less functional and I do enjoy the bigger screen for photos etc. Don't get me wrong the iPhone 6 plus looks good but I just seem to prefer android and thin you get more for your money.

It's interesting isn't it. The Samsung Galaxy phones offer better value but the iPhone still outsells it. Is this the clever marketing from Apple or do people really prefer it? I don't know. I have a 18 month old Galaxy and the battery has swelled so is useless now. I've been told by the dealers here a replacement isn't available as it's an old model! No matter as I'm now using an Apple ipad2 which I think is great. The OS is more intuitive and easy to use but the Android is more customisable.

I guess you pays your money and takes your choice!

One of the problems is that once you have used Apple stuff for a while you are inclined to have bought several apps that you can transfer to any new Apple stuff you buy, but if you switch to Android and want the same apps you have to repurchase everything  All right for cheap little apps but the likes of Co-Pilot which I sometimes use for car navigation was over £20 I think so grudge paying again. It kind of traps you I feel.

It is always difficult to compare sales of Android vs Apple phones because there are far more phone models running Android than there are running the Apple OS.

I was specifically talking about Samsung Galaxy against iPhone.

OK but thats not a very good comparison.

I think there is a way to do this but not 100% I'm sure my friend trashed from apple to android and took his apps with him. As long as you the android market has the apps then I'm sure it is OK.

Just wait 'til the Galaxy S6 is out, these don't hold their value particularly well, and the S5 should be more affordable then.

FWIW, on the S4, you can eke even more battery life from it by switching all the surplus gubbins (the thing that detects whether you're looking at it, &c) off - I'd assume you can make your S5 even more frugal in the same way.

I think I read that Samsung have bought the rights to offer Here Maps on Galaxy devices (coming in October, iirc). That's a really good mapping and navigation solution that doesn't need constant data connection - if it transfers to the Galaxy devices in the form it's currently on Windows Phone in, it will be hard to beat.
