Whapping the towel out in the swimming pool changing rooms and a pair of the wife's lacy knickers flying out. Cue much piss taking.

I'm very new to all of these "faux pas" (I only got my bike 5 days ago) , but I now realised that with my CAAD8 being black and white, I have a black Cannondale top, black bib-shorts, black socks, black cleats, but I have very bright yellow cycling gloves.

So it seems when I am finally able to start cycling good distances and durations (I've been pretty much bedridden for 9 years and I am extremely weak) and possibly join a cycling club around Oxford, I will be the laughing stock of all the riders!

Fear not Felix. In exactly the same way there is always somebody quicker, there is also always somebody dafter vying for ones crown.
And it won't take you long in Oxford to find them, I lived there for a while, I saw them.

Thank you for saying that!

I know I've got a long road ahead of me, but once I get strong enough to cycling for a fair few miles, I will enjoy all of the cycle paths and lanes greatly.

As I've been going out each day on my bike, I have started to feel more confident with how it feels. I'm so happy it's not been hurting my lower back one bit and that it's just general weakness that is holding me back. Oh and I find the Cannondale saddle bloody uncomfortable even with my padded cycling shorts on.

Some people think the Velominati stuff is funny. Some people take it seriously. Most people think it's bollocks and wish they would just shut up. Just saying.

Sorry please could you explain what the "Velominati Stuff" is. I am very new and unfamiliar with a lot of the things in this new culture that I am really excited to become a part of. I am a massive petrolhead and have been really into my car culture and modded cars that are done correctly rather than someone who puts half of Halfords onto their mums old car.

Even though I have an older 2nd hand Cannondale CAAD8, I am more excited as I know I can do a lot of jobs on a bike from my past when I would tinker on bikes for hours. I've been fanatically learning about setting up the saddle height, the front stem height, bars angle and using SPD-SL's for the first time. I'm even getting excited about being able to give it a good clean and make the bike look and feel great. With my back problems, I have never been able to do my own work on my very limited edition Impreza P1, so to finally be able to tinker away on the bike has been such a great thing for me to be able to do.

Is it "Fauk Pa" to be a total petrolhead and also be into cycling and the mechanical side of things?

Not at all, there are a few 'petrolheads' on here including guys who raced Motorbikes (at National level)

Check out what Guy Martin is up to these days, not racing motorbikes at the TT and Irish roadrace meetings but really 'in to' 24hr solo MTB riding/racing. :bicycle:
