I always thought that when you confirmed a bid you you had to go through with it, i found last week with a cpl of clicks you can just cancel it , whats that all about.

That's right, you can cancel bids, (far too easily IMO), but if you do cancel you have to select a reason, (usually entered wrong bid amount), but then you are obliged to enter the amount you meant to bid, this very rarely, (if ever) happens IME. I appreciate it would be almost impossible for ebay to police this, so why not just make it harder to retract a bid in the first place? Perhaps if you had to go through ebay themselves, and you had to give your reason for retraction and also the amount you meant to bid and then ebay sort it out, just an idea to help curb the ebay tits.
