So when 'people' selectively breed a dog to be very powerful and very aggressive, then bring that dog up in a way that encourages it's natural aggressive tendencies - do you think the dog is evil ?

Don't get me wrong here, I don't want such dogs within our society, and sadly they need to be removed. But hating a dog for doing exactly what it has been bred and trained for is missing the mark.
In that case you are quite right, it's not the fault of the dog and in those cases the law has to be inflexible and jail the responsible people behind such animal. A simple fine will not do.

This problem is not an easy problem to solve as it has many different aspects to it. Not all dogs are nasty and that is clear as water. The problem is that some dogs are nasty even when their owners don't want them to be. How do we make sure that owners are capable of controlling and teaching their dogs properly? That is the main issue in my view and it's not an issue that can be solved easily or cheaply. There are other issues such as people wanting to breed dangerous dogs...

I like nice dogs but I wouldn't say I'm a dog's person. As a child I always had dogs but I never had one as an adult and when my kids wanted one they did not get one as I was not in a position to dedicate time to make sure the dog was a good dog. It would have been great to have a dog for the kids but also very irresponsible of me to land my kids with the responsibility of looking after - training of the dog.

Some people just get a dog, without realising what they are undertaking. Sometimes a totally unsuitable dog. Just the other day while cycling, I stopped in a park to have a bite to eat and enjoy the sunshine for a bit.... there was a couple with two kids playing with a ball when out of nowhere this massive rottweiler came running and sank it teeth into the ball. The kids run for cover and the girl that was supposed to be walking the dog could not control the dog at all. Obviously this was not a nasty dog but a playful and out of control dog. Do we need scenes like this? I was asking myself.

And the thing I hate about dogs is that they use parks, paths and greens as toilets so when you are out walking or playing in the park you invariably end up with dog shoot on you which is disgusting or you see bags of dog shoot that selfish self-gratification artist dog owners have hung or chucked in the bushes. Vile people, vile creatures. I don't like dogs as you might have guessed. And I don't share your enthusiam for Fido that is why I don't want your mutt chasing me and jumping up at me trying to bite me. Well if he is being friendly and won't hurt me then I won't have to hurt him/her or sue you. :cursing:

I don't know who I dislike more, nasty dogs or people that defend nasty dogs and I make no apologies for that. A feeling of dislike for these people that has developed from reading their opinions on dog attacks. To them there are no nasty dogs, only bad owners.
same mentality as no bad pupils only bad teachers

Thread revival time.
This is so upsetting! Some scumbag has let their horrible dog attack a seal on the banks of the river Thames.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ie-Mercury-savaged-dog-terrifying-attack.html
The young seal was severely injured and the vets said the only option was to euthanise the seal. The other week an out of control dog attacked a peacock on a 'small animals farm' around here. The peacock was operated on but didn't survive the operation. There's also been quite a few cases of dogs mauling sheep around here as well. One farmer put pictures on a local Facebook page of his dead and badly injured sheep. When i go to the local park i see dogs running riot, while their owners are hundreds of yards away.

Are you getting sick of out of control, off the lead dogs!

You are not being very fair by highlighting the very small number (in comparison) of dogs who are ‘out of control’. Maybe you should stay in the house and off the news sites.

I was out on Monday, i was climbing a steep hill going through a council estate when it came at me! One of those freaks of nature you seem to find on council estates and when you go on holiday to Spain, Portugal etc..i mean a hybrid dog by the way.
It was a monster and i headed for my leg,i wasn't changing direction for this creature, it would have been safer to turn around and fly back down the hill to safety, but being one that believes in making a stand and not backing down or running away(if it's fairly safe to do so)i carried on climbing the hill. I unclipped my left foot and kept on peddling waiting if needed, to boot the swine and save my leg at any cost! Anyway, the numpty owner shouted something like "get f.....g back here", so i shouted that he should have the thing under control. to which he replied something like "you should keep still when a dog comes at you.. you f..... puff". I presume he thinks that cyclists, unless they're drug delivering chavs on stolen mountain bikes, are soft and easy game for him and his horrible dog! I noted the numpty's house and if "Cujo"had chewed my leg i'd have been straight off to the police station, there'd have been no point in trying to argue or reason with the thicko and i'd want the police to take action, as i know they have to when a dog attacks a human.
By the way this is the third time in the last week or so that i've attracted dogs while out cycling. Well the first one wasn't aimed at me but i witnessed it. A bloke was cycling on a designated cycle route when out of nowhere some monster headed for his back wheel, chewed it then nearly knocked the bloke off. The cyclist sped away, then the dog headed towards me. It must have read my thoughts as i waited behind my bike with a nice piece of wood i found on the floor, it ran back to the owner. I glared at the idiot who seemed to think that attacking cyclists is part of his animal's exercise routine!
The other day i was doing laps around a local park(on the road, not in the park)when some looney creature came running at me. It seemed friendly and wanted to run beside me, but the owner was shouting for me to keep still while he caught up with his dog. I wasn't stopping for him or his dog so i kept on doing my laps. He eventually stepped in front of me and asked why i hadn't stopped, grabbed his dog then waited till he arrived to collar it?. Apparently parks are for dog walking and not cycling around according to the owner, and as we "don't pay road tax or insurance, we have no rights when on the road"according to him.

Have any of you had a similar experience, and what do you reckon about "savage dog attacks"?
Did you get bit, or did the dog just get a piece of clothing

Did you report the incident to the Police?

If not, it is a complete waste of time discussing it

If yes, it may well still be a complete waste of time discussing it

My dog (Rottweiler) used to chase anything with wheels. I don't think he wanted to attack it I think he saw it as some sort of game but either way it's something I trained out of him very quickly. Even before I'd started cycling I'd put him on a short leash if I saw any cyclist/jogger etc in range.
I'm really not one to want to govern people but I kinda think maybe there should be some sort of compulsory training before people can have ANY kind of dog... Or animal for that matter

I would say " there should be and intelligence test and some sort of compulsory training before people can have ANY kind of dog... Or animal for that matter", but, otherwise, I agree.
