According to Nick Stapleton who does a TV series exposing scammers and has also written a book on the subject, the largest number of victims by age are in their twenties and thirties.

Not seen that

probably work on the "wonderful investment recommended by Influencers" concept

I had another a while back about PPI I had claimed for. I said I had asked officially at the time and nothing was found.

Without missing a beat, the guy then started on about Car Finance. I said "no".

Yet again, straight back at me...
Car Insurance...

I said I didn't even drive.

He went

"OHHHH!!"

I repeated

"OHHHH!!"

And hung up. 🤦‍♂️😆😆

Most are so noisy and indecipherable to me anyway that I just hang up.
F**k that s**t.

If it really IS that important then I'll find out properly eventually.

It is not that simple MDB.
I somehow stumbed across what I thought was a TV discussion with Martin Lewis. He was proclaiming an app the professionals do not want you to see, it being 'easy repeat money for anyone'. I found it strange and went back to my usual YouTube highlight videos.

It was oniy days later it dawned on me that it was likely AI, very well done AI too. Undoubtably the app would steal your £250 or whatever whilst making you think you have 'earned'. It wil only be at the withdrawel attempt stage people realise they have been scammed.

years ago I started deliberately talking to them and keeping them on the phone for as long as possible

The idea was that if they are talking to me then they are not talking to someone who might give in to them

I noticed after a while that the number of calls I was getting was not going down
I thought that they would take my number of their list once it became clear that I would just waste their time and was not likely to go for whatever they were trying to get me to do
Instead if anything I was getting more and more calls

I stopped talking to them and started just hanging up and over time the number started dropping

I read somewhere that sometimes, if you annoy them they put your number on a general list of "possible suckers" then they sell on
so your number goes to other groups that then try you for their scams

No idea if that is right or things just seemed that way

I am sure it's not, but with my brain damage and hearing problems, I can feign either confusion or "Sorry, where are you from?... Can you repeat that?"
So I get the jist of what it is.

"Sorry, I cannot understand what you are saying, sorry, goodbye...".

And even then, I learned years ago to hang up and call officially (I know to do it on another line or contact them via a different means, just in case).

I even hung up on the Council once about Council Tax!

Thing is, I have b*gger all money anyway, so good luck to any scammers! 😆

I might have posted this elsewhere on this forum before.

Many years ago I got cold called from someone claiming to be from the anti fraud team at my credit card company. Told me they were looking into a transaction but before they could talk to me I had to pass some security questions. I told them that they needed to te me something first that would convince me that they were who they said they were. We reached impasse so I said I would hang up and call the number on the back of my card and ask for their anti fraud team.

A few moments later I was talking to the very same person. The transaction they were questioning me about, whilst unusual for me, what one and had done. The person did say that they wished more people were suspicious of calls in the way I had been.

When telephone banking first started I opened an account with a new bank that did it

After a few months they rang and needed to talk to me about something to do with my account

the bloke said he needed to take me through security first
I questioned it and he said they needed to be sure they were talking to the account holder
So I said I needed first to be sure I was talking to someone from the bank

This was ages ago and things were just getting going at the time - but the bloke sounded very surprised and then seemed to suddenly realise that this made sense
I told him I would ring the back back immediately - but he had to make sure that his call was logged on my account or my next step would be to talk to a manager about someone trying to access my account - and then the Police

Like I say - it was a long time ago

but when I rang back there was a note on my account to say he had rung and that it was genuine

I also received an email thanking me for expressing my concern and saying they would be looking at the problem

so - basically - it is all my fault!!!

As soon as I see that phrase or similar in any advert, I know it is going to be a scam.

Thats the thing. It would have stood out to me too, but for the fact it was Martin Lewis saying it. Would I have been sucked in if I had dwelled on it, I doubt it.
Talk of the devil, now they have Kier Starmer telling me to punt £200 'supported by the government', likely from the same scammers.

Youtube really should be made to refund everyone scammed ! It is a complete farce ! An elongated ad too, so heavy money has been spent on the scam
The advert even came on via Sky News so strategic there too.

Too late now, maybe I should have scanned the screen barcode, via an old device and accepted and recorded the ''manager call" due tomorrow.
