Any points for scalping a car, it was on a clear road just they were going alot slower than me and I did not fancy free-wheeling in the rain.:rain:

In the car drivers defence, he/she was a learner driver and I think the speed humps scared them.

I've scalped a Ferrari

Although, it was also on a road with speed bumps. So I guess they were going slow to avoid bottoming out.

I scalped a car on Friday with no assistance whatsoever: no speed bumps, no traffic calming, no tailwind, no gradient.

It was a Reliant Robin with a huge plume of blue smoke trailing behind it.

I get them every so often, for the case of a few mph I rather take the safe option and stay behind... though some people are silly slow for too long so tend to take advantage when its safe.

I have passed someone doing the speed limit on occasion, but on reflection I feel the risk isn't worth it - specially when you consider that a lot of people tend to perk up when you overtake them and raise their speed (car vs car specially).

Scalped a learner a couple of weeks ago, on the flat and into the wind. Only to have the compliment returned less than 100yrds further on. Just a bit cautious and hesitant after having just turned left at the lights. Probably got a few rude comments from the instructor. Deservedly, I suppose.

I overtook a car when going downhill with loaded panniers in Corsica once. It was twisty though, and he was slowing me up. I'm not sure that quite counts as a scalping as such.

I have overtaken a bus on Great Western Road in Glasgow before. Also I have over taken a train - one of those tourist 'roadtrain' thingies at Lomond Shores.

With all the roadworks that have sprung up in recent weeks, I've been forced to ride along Edge Lane in Liverpool. It's the main road linking the city centre and the M62, so it's very busy. It can be a nightmare getting into position to turn right, so on a couple of occasions I've moved into the outside lane as soon as there's a gap and sprinted as hard as possible to keep up with traffic.

The look on the faces of the drivers I pass is priceless: I guess they don't expect a guy in jeans on a hybrid blasting past them on a dual carriageway

They were going rather slow, I probably could have overtaken it walking "briskly".
The speed humps are the type the car needs to position their wheels either side of the hump to avoid it, the sort that forces cyclists into the gutter.

There is one place I have an opportunity to scalp a car driving at the limit but there is a mini-RAB, a petrol station, a RAB and two busy pedestrian crossings at the bottom, so I do not even bother, far too dangerous.

I've scalped a car once in a 30 mph zone.

Completley clear road, broad daylight, and no other traffic.

He was doing about 22 mph, there were no potential right turns coming up, so I just put the hammer down and blasted past him...

Part of my rationale, was that although there were no cars behind me, there soon would be, and he was going to become the cork in a queue of impatient traffic. With me stuck in the middle of it, which I didn't fancy.

I overtake loads of cars every day when commuting. Cars have this system, you might have noticed, called a "jam". They simply all leave home at the same time and then meet up at the main road leading into the nearest town. This makes it easy to overtake dozens at a time.

One time I nearly brown trousered was during a car overtake. I was coming down a series of hills on the A373. There was a horse box being towed by a Landrover and it was going so slow I kept up with it fine on the uphills. On one of the downhills I decided to go past. But I'd forgotten that at that point the road narrowed. And of course as I overtook another large car was coming the other way. I avoided a high speed head on somehow but since that day I don't overtake stuff downhill even if it is going slow.
