Being in Scotland, our summer holidays start at the end of June, a good 2 weeks before those in Engerlund.

Now, we normally went on holiday during these 2 weeks to avoid not only the crowds (i.e. the English), but also it was before the high season started.
All very well, BUT, if one wasn't away on holiday, then the Summer TV from CBBC didn't start until the English holidays started (I think CITV was the same), so Instead, we got bloody W*mbledon!!*

And then, to add insult to injury, when we went back to School, we then had two bloody weeks of..... Yep.... Summer TV!

I know we got the two weeks in the low season, but, still, to a kid that was of minor importance!! :whistle:

It is as if

A. We didn't exist or were not deemed important enough for our OWN summer TV.

And

* - B. I still hate W*mbledon with a passion now!

Ah yes, because giving kids something they actually interact with is much worse than gormlessly staring at a tv.
My mistake, I wasn't actually thinking about TV even although it was the point of the OP..
Get them out on bikes, playing football, or anything that involves physical activity.
Silly me, that might involve some effort on the part of their parents.

You're all looking at this through rose-tinted varifocals. It was the same every bloody summer and was boring as hell. Heidi, Huckleberry Finn, King of The Rocket Men, Banana Splits, Black Beauty etc. repeated year after year after year.

And let's not forget Why Don't You gave us Ant and bloody Dec...

It was Byker Grove you have to blame for them....

Edit: I stand corrected..... below

This theme tune still sends me back to my childhood summer holiday ... marooned in the living room, condemned to watch this on TV until going up the woods to make a camp in Crusoe-fashion (we all had pocket knives then ... and we didn't mug people). We made fires too, in our camps ... nobody batted an eyelid ... eeeh, but I'm feeling old ust watching this

TV was all well and good, but when we weren't doing that we were usually bombing around building sites on our bikes. You could make some great jumps out of the piles of mud that were left around the edges of a site, and those planks of wood and bricks were just perfect for making your own Evil Kenevil ramps - here he is with a proper bike! :eek:
