No. I could never do the job, id want to slap a kid that got cheeky to me, or shoot them.
I do think teachers should either be given a medal depending how long they last, or put into a padded cell, knowing how kids in my school are.

I had a kid on a BMX come off the pavement on the right of me, and starting moving left.
I shouted "OI" with some other stuff, and told him if he did that again id would have him flat on the floor next time.
He went off very fast as i stopped to turn into my drive.

Mrs M says that is a very good insight into the career pathways of many teachers! She went into higher ed before they found her a padded cell LOL!!

Well in my day, teachers did slap children, or slipper them, cane whatever and look how good all us old'uns turned out!

Give a good humiliating clip round the ear in front of their mates and you will make a better person of them...

(just don't let anyone see you or you are in for prison time! - what is wrong with this country nowadays!)

Detentions dont bother kids now. Nor does 'On-call'(taking them out of the lesson and shoving them in a room to sit in silence and work)

Shoot them, i say.

Are you a teacher? If not then Mrs Jonathan M (she is a lecturer and has responsibility for admissions to undergrad & PGCE teaching courses) says that you have desirable qualities to undertake a teaching course!
You're saying that your wife, someone responsible for recruiting and training teachers, believes that an attitude of violence towards children is a suitable qualification? It's because of people like her that the rules shifted in favour of child protection in the first place.

[And incidentally I'm sure that both of you are well aware that if she were to vocalise that point of view publicly she'd be out of work chop chop.]

This thread is way out of hand, so much talk of beatings and violence on children.

What, by the way. is your proposed way of punishing a child?

28 years so far - do I get one?

Secondly, I have to say that this is the most profoundly depressing thread I have read on this forum. It's bad enough listening to the southern psychopaths describing their hideous relationships with each other, without having to put up with this bile-filled tosh. Makes me want to move to Spain, where adults are able to have a mature relationship with children & teenagers. Perhaps we get the society we deserve?

Padded cell for you!
How do you find is the best way to punish children for swearing and being complete twats?
Do children over here act like adults? I mean all of them by the way.
If you say yes to that, you have never been to my school;)

I don't think anyone is seriously advocating beating children, but you raise an interesting point about Spain.

I think that children in Spain grow up more aware of the boundaries of good behaviour due to far more visible authority figures throughout their lives to guide them as they mature. More visible police (who can act, without being tied by the CPS) for example, also a much greater sense of community in general which allows everyone to point out good and bad behaviour where ever it is seen.

And no, I don't feel discipliningguiding kids is just a teachers job, I think it is everyone's who they come into contact with.

Arent the Police in Spain allowed to hit people? Im sure they are, ive seen it on TV.
Drunk kids gets cheeky and they get a punch to shut them up. Or a wack from the police officers baton.
This will give them more respect.
Oh, and any look of a man threatening a woman, or pushing her about too roughly, and they get taken down hard, and punched for it.

Ive seen it on TV.

Exactly, if shot right then they will die painlessly and fast.
Whats the problem here?

probably not, it's just nothing gets done about it if they do. Spain's a fairly primitive country by our standards, remember.

Why should the school be responsible for the pupils' behaviour outside school?

(Consider last week's thread about the headteacher "not allowing" pupils to cycle to school before replying...)
At my school you had to always act responsibly whilst wearing your uniform. With it on you are disginusable as a pupil from that school, and any bad behaviour witnessed whilst wearing it could damage the reputation of the school.

And as for this:

How can you possibly post that the next page after you posted this?

You would like a return to slapping children about, beating them with sticks and other handy implements, ritual humiliation, but 'no one is seriously advocating beating children'?

You're very good at taking things out of context. I was talking about children who are deliberately trying to seriously main or kill me. This is something I take issue with, in much the same way as most people take issue with children who do other abnormal things like torturing other children. I see no reason why I should have to put up with unprovoked attacks from people while I'm just pootling along minding my own business.

Presumably you think that this the action of a relatively normal child who will respond to a couple of sentances of kindly advice from an adult. I would beg to disagree. At the very least, in a few years time they will be taking their driving tests and going out in the big wide world with exactly the same attitude to vulnerable road users.

You also talk about children but teenage boys are actually bigger than me, and there's usually more of them. Surely it's me who's in need of protection from them and not the other way round?
