Sadly politicians never listen to scientists

The job of a politician is to listen to their constituents, not to scientists. If our politicians aren't making the right decisions then it's up to us to vote in ones that will. Of course when the choice we get come election time doesn't include anyone prepared to listen, then that's another matter altogether. And if we the people don't take the trouble to lobby our politicians on those things that matter to us, then we deserve what we get.

Would be far better to fund research into why some car drivers drive like knobs around cyclists and pedestrians.
Considering the very low number of deaths due to cycling, is this money well spent?

I've been involved, as a scientist, in one of these COST programes before. The one I was involved with seemed more concerned about where we should have lunch rather than actual scientific development. Hopefully this one will be better. These COST schemes seem to be regarded as a decent source of funding, requiring little scientific output, and are often used as networking events.

Hope this one is different!!

What hope when they can't even get the acronym right?

"the European Cooperation in Science and Technology: COST for short."
