Anyone used either of the above - is Scirocco any better than Fulcrum 5 ? Thinking of using it for sportives in 2010 with some nice Conti GP4000s tyres. Any views ?
While the Fulcrums are about 60g lighter, they are essentially the same. Fulcrum is a subsidiary of Campagnolo so presumably they are made side by side and designed by the same people.
Both choices are considered to be very strong wheelsets and decent value in that price bracket. Probably down to if you want to see Campagnolo on a bike decked out with SRAM or Shimano.
Dont know about Scirocco's but I have some Fulcrum 5's that I raced on all last year, and commuted and trained on for the last two years, including winters, Sheffield's pothole strewn roads etc.
Not needed touching at all, sealed bearings and still bang on true.
Reasonably light also. Great wheels, definitely recommend them.
My scirocco's only died when I chucked the rear gear into the back wheel after three years sterling service. Rock solid and fairly fast- I imagine the fulcrums are of similar quality.
