It might not have been a dirty look, more like I'm dying here !

Don't think too much about it.
As others have said,it could have been for a number of reasons and probably not meant.
I get a lot of that in the work, people who usually say hello and stuff walk right past me.
When I ask if there is anything wrong, they tell me I drew them a dirty look
I have to explain to them, that is just my way as I am not great at eye contact. No reason, just not great at it.
Could be that as well

My only experience driving behind cyclists has involved keeping the whole thing relaxed - keep the engine quiet, keep a safe (for the cyclist's possible perception) distance. When a good time for a pass comes along, I tend to look at the cyclist. Most really don't seem to have clocked me. Job done. I drive a quiet car but job done anyway.

Sorry for the essay, just really wanted to get that off my chest. Anyone had a similar experience?

I would not worry about it. If he can't tell the difference between someone deliberately revving to get attention and revving to control up a hill, thats his problem not yours. The fact that you are disturbed by it does show consideration.

The cyclist may not be a car owner, I suggest the op may have been a tad closer and not quite in control of his car.

I must be really thick skinned because you could sit behind me all day and rev your engine and I wouldnt care a jot. it really wouldnt bother me. I must go into a zen state on my bike and not know about it. Either that or my 6 years as a copper has made me immune from people acting like total dicks.

The op did the right thing and didnt run him over. That has got to be a result. The fact that the cyclist thought he was being chased up the hill is just unfortunate.

Can't think why I'd use my clutch at all, going up a hill driving a car? I'd be jazzed off too, with yet another rev happy fruitcake behind me. ^_^
If it's that slow, then first gear may be too fast even on tickover, ever been in a traffic jam on the motorway, add a hill to the equation and you may have to occasionally dab the clutch.

I got horns sounded at me twice on Sunday for perfectly legally riding 2 abreast I gave both a cheery wave as they went by. They can't help being idiots. I both cases by the way they were driving massive 4x4s which looked as if they had never touched the dirt lol.

Point 1 - it was your fault - it always is - cyclists are perfect
Point 2 -
christ - why the need to attack the poster?
Because it's always somebody else's fault isn't it
Because he was a motorist. Forum rule 4.
I rest my case
Sadly the number of cyclists who either nod , smile or wave any thanks is, in my experience virtually zero [as opposed to drivers, m/cyclists or even horse riders]
As above he may just have been cream crackered but if you're expecting any appreciation - forget it.
