Bought a pair of Sealskinz waterproof gloves a couple of years ago and wore them on the odd occasion that it was raining hard enough to justify their use. On the way home one day noticed that my hands felt very soggy. Wearing Sealskins - ? Yes. Anyway at home I let them dry and did 'the Sealskins test' ; filled them with water. I turned one inside out so the water was on the 'right' side of the glove. They both leaked immediately and quickly. Contacted Sealskinz and at their behest, returned them for them to test. A new pair duly arrived in the post, but when I contacted them about their test, I was informed that 'the results of the test were not available'.
My own conclusion of the failure of said gloves - the woven/knitted type is that frequent moving of my hands on dropped bars opened up the weave enough to cause the waterproof layer to fail.
I still have a pair of Altura Hurricane gloves that I bought about 15 years ago and even now, with the palms worn away, I still have yet to experience wet hands in them - and I've only reproofed them about twice in that time - !
What's your experience with Sealskins waterproof gloves - ?

I have Sealskinz cycling gloves. They are really good, I have found. They let go on a 50 mile ride in the pouring rain and howling wind, at the 47 mile mark, so I was pleased with them. I have new Sealskinz now. The ones that leaked at 47 miles are winter gloves when there is no chance of rain/walking the dogs/going shopping etc. New Sealskinz for when I reckon that it's going to rain while I'm out.

I know some people have had rubbish Sealskinz and others have had really good ones. It's a bit pot luck

Mine are about to commence their 7th consecutive winter of use. They're just on the bulky side of my personal tastes, but otherwise I can't fault.

However, they do seem to be Marmite and as many detest them as adore them.

An interesting variety of experiences with SS gloves. Although according to their website, SS test EVERY pair of waterproof gloves / socks before despatch. But as they fill said glove / sock with water, the water is then going the 'wrong' way, as rain enters from the OUTSIDE & not the inside - ! It would appear that either their quality control is not up to scratch as some pairs of gloves seem to fail after a relatively short time. Couldn't say that about my trusty Alturas after fifteen years use eh - ? !

I had a pair and they leaked like sieves from day one. I bought some specialised waterproof gloves and they are in their 5 season with no leaks, though they can get a bit sweaty inside.

I had the windproof version. They were rubbish, as the seam let a draught through. And after 2 years of limited use they have started to fall to bits.

There're not ! Got the MTB waterproof winter gloves. They are not waterproof, they are not warm and they are not value for money.

Avoid
