Ok, so a bit of an odd question here probably, but...

I've got a spare seatpost and saddle that I had on my old flat bar roadster. Nothing fancy, just an alu seatpost and an inexpensive selle italia triathlon saddle. They just gather dust.

Well, I just swapped the seatpost out on my Felt and put the old one on instead, just because its marginally lighter and I thought why the heck not. Retained Felt's saddle as it's the most comfy thing I've got by miles.

My odd question is this: as both seatposts have a setback of approx an inch, is it safe (ie strong enough) to reverse the direction of such a seatpost so as to mount the saddle much further forward?

Thanks

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Depends if you can angle it enough to get the saddle level as normally they are angled to counteract the angle of the seat post so when you flip it the angel is all wrong .I would personally just buy a zero setback post .

+1, i would if i could afford one but since i cant...

The angle of the saddle works with the felt seatpost altho not the older one.

Mainly concerned with whether the concept would result in unacceptable forces and break the post..?

I tried this on my old seat post and it's as cyber knight says, it was pointing way down and I couldn't adjust it any higher.

Seat post and stem are two different things completely but a lot of people assume they do the same thing.
You need to measure your knee over spindle, if it's too far back even with the seat completely forward then you will need a zero setback seat post. Stem just affects you reach once the seat is in the right place.

I know this because I have changed both, I changed the stem first but was still very uncomfortable as my knee was too far back. Changed the seat post yesterday from a 20mm to a 0 setback and it's a night and day difference now, my bum is in the right place on the seat.

I changed the stem some time ago from 110mm to 90mm with a 30 degree rise and whilst it did help somewhat I still had an uncomfortable bum.

Sorry if there is spelling mistakes, I'm using a stupid iPhone.

My 2p worth.
