Hello all,

Recently I have been on my road bike racking in the miles and have been using my backpack as a means to carry some spares and my wallet ect.

I am after some information about saddle bags, mainly which one do you recommend for price and must have a good quality finish. How are they fitted to the seat as I wouldn't want it to fall off without me noticing.

Thanks for your help
Kind Regards
John

All the ones I have are held on by three straps, two round the saddle rails and one round the seatpost

What's the budget and how much do you want to carry. Topeak ones are oft recommended, find a retailer and look at the different sizes

no budget really, sky's the limit for a decent one that will last me years and years TBH. Its to fit on a Giant Defy 1 and I would like to carry a Pump, tube, money, phone, tyre levers and alley key.. Thanks for your fast reply

Carradice or Ortlieb are probably the Rolls Royce options. Can, or if you can bear ut't see a £15 bag staying tip top for years. None will fit a decent pump. Mount it on the frame, the Lezyne Road Drives are super looking, get the medium. Or if you don't want stuff on the frame, you can stick it in a jersey pocket (not something I can do, I hate having hard stuff against my back)

Hi,
As vickster has advised, toppeak are very popular, I have a medium size, which fits , a spare tube, levers, multi tool, co2 pump, some zipp ties, and that's without using the expansion zip, that increases the size even more.

Regards
Tony.

You will have problems with a pump. unless you use a CO2pump as above. SOme do have elastic retainers for a pump, but they are not all that secure

If you are feeling spendy then there is always Brooks:

My Topeak fell apart due to the positioning of the stitching on the strap. Replaced with the smallest Carradice. Holds tube, CO2 pump, levers, multitool and a teeny tiny phone, with space for an extra tube and CO2 canister if I'm feeling unlucky or riding with potentially unprepared friends

I have this one:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_188509_langId_-1_categoryId_165643

It's very secure as it has a clip which secures to the seat rail plus a strap around the seat post.
It clips off if you want to leave the bike and take it with you. There's loads of room!
Sorry for the rubbish pics, taken on my phone a few mins ago.
Edited as part of my post got lost somewhere!

i use one of these...

it doesn't have a cavernous capacity, but does fit a few tools, puncture kit, spare batteries and my big Cree front light inside. It's very easy to remove when need be, and stays in place when riding.

Topeak aero wedge. Secured with a bracket on the saddle & a strap around the seat post. Think it was £15 from Halfords. Holds multi tool, spare tube, skabz, mobile phone & space blanket (always handy to have one with you)
