Second hand turbo

Hi all

I have a dumb turbo and have just been given another one, a tacx one.

Just given it a whirl but after about 5 mins, tye smell of burning rubber was very strong and that doesn’t happen on my other turbo (a Saris one).

When I stopped, I noted the roller itself was very hot indeed but the instructions say it could get very warm.

Would a turbo tyre help?

Hopefully I can attach the pics so you can see and offer advice!

I should have said that the third pic shows some rubber on the kitchen floor but you may have to zoom in to see it lol

I've not experienced it first-hand, but I believe a normal tyre designed for use not on a turbo, will rapidly wear and get very warm. Turbo specific tyres cope much better.

Those a tyre eaters. Use a special turbo tyre and/or inflate your tyre as hard as possible. It can easily eat a tyre in one session if yoiu get it wrong.

I will look into turbo tyres then - never needed one on the Saris

yes a dedicated turbo tyre is a lot better

A turbo tyre is better, yes. My experience is that they wear better and are less messy as they don't produce bits of rubber dust.

But I think there must be something else awry because I never got a smell of burning rubber with an ordinary tyre.

Actually, usually not tight enough and then causing slippage.
