So kind cc'ers. I would like some kind of steer as to secure bike parking close to the station or city center. I don't mind paying a fee if the provision is worth it. It would be for 6-8 hours maybe. This will be on a Saturday during the Oxford Pie-cnic.

Cheers,

Secure bike parking and Oxford are mutually exclusive. Unfortunately it's not like Cambridge....
Will have a think....

Cheers Fabbers, google hasn't really thrown anything up so I'm going for local knowledge. I'd like to do the ride in so may use the old hardtail and bring the big lock if nothing comes up.

ETA, as others are possibly riding in they may have an idea, either that or just keep the bike close.

It's times like these you sit and wonder......"What would @srw do?"

Oxford backpacker's hostel is a two minute walk from the railway station, they store luggage quite cheaply. You could call them and see if they will store a bike.

Otherwise it is just Sheffield stands, if you can find one. Oxford has terrible cycle parking provision (and indeed any cycle provision).

It's a bit more complicated than that...

If you're beginning to think that you really need to examine your life....

I'm intending simply to keep my bike close, and when I have to lock it rely on the fact that there will be several other bikes to lock together. And I won't bring my best bike.

Could be wrong though.

The route I'm thinking off starts with two long and mostly reasonably gentle uphill drags interspersed with two quick descents, goes on to a long flat section, then rolls a bit before another long downhill. I'm currently exceedingly slow and pretty low on stamina, so I'll be using the standard social ride rule-of-thumb of 10mph overall average, and adding a bit for luck. If you're pretty fit a single-speed would be fine.

Again, when I'm back on a decent PC I'll pay some more attention to route and timing.
