The first, and last time I had a card cloned it was a brand new card and I had only used it once (which IMHO rather narrows it down a bit). That was in a well known national Pizza restaurant chain - the waiter disappeared with my card before returning with a hand held machine to enter the pin on – in retrospect I guess he took it away to swipe it through his machine first, and then took note of me entering the pin.
My advice would be to keep an eye on the card at all times – and beware of tricks like the assistant “dropping” the card on the floor behind the counter etc – it takes less than a second to swipe/copy them.
Have shopped online loads of time and never had a problem – I’d be careful blaming one online shop – it’s far more likely that you’ve been hacked than them…
