Don't know about you but I'm getting sick to death of people running at the side of rider's.

I notice all the cycle spectators are stood clapping and taking photos but there is always a load of blokes probably p#@!3d up.

They really need to do something about this.

It can't be the "usual idiots" tho can it? I doubt the same people turn up at all the events and run along side. It's "one of those things", it might be annoying and it sometimes interferes with the riders. But it's all part of cycling.

The italian bloke cheering on Nibali was a star. He seemed to be cheering, he could have been complaining that Nibali hadn't taken the washing in for i know, tbh, but it seemed like cheering. The fans weren't so bad today. I thought the cars were more of a hindrance.

I noticed that myself, they did get in the way of riders a few times and didn't seem professionally driven, brakes slammed on a few times at narrower parts. And weren't they tiny cars? Why were some teams using Fabia sized cars as the only team car?
Actually while I was typing the last sentence it occurred to me that I probably know the answer. The budget of say, Belgium's Olympic cycling squad does not equate to that of say, Tinkoff or Sky. And maybe only "compact" was available at the Hertz Rio branch too.

About 6 kilometers from the end i heard a screaming grunting noise then saw this loonoid gaining on the riders. The commentator said he had some pace to keep up with them. I was hoping he got close enough to get a wack from a rider, but he ran out of breath before he seriously annoyed them.

Sadly in this day and age, I worry a little about the security risk to the cyclists of allowing the fans to get so close.

It can only be a matter of time before some nutter looking for his 15 minutes of fame pulls out a knife and attacks one of the competitors, or even just a fan of rider A deciding to help his hero by pushing rider B off his bike.

I am all for tripping up the nobbers who get off on running alongside the riders. They should then be dragged off the road and into the crowd for a spot of attitude realignment.

I would say, it's because Brazil have done a job at a fraction of the last few Olympics, Russia winter ones spring to mind

I was seriously impressed with the Nibali fan. Not only did he put Froome's run up Mont Ventoux to shame, I fully expect him to be called up for the 2020 Olympics. More training and less beer and he'll make an impressive athlete.

Does this running alongside sports persons happen in other sports? I don't think they'd accept some attention seeker running alongside a runner in the marathon.
How about fans jumping onto football pitches and running alongside footballers shouting and screaming at them. If they did they'd be ejected and banned indefinitely from the ground.
