....had my first go at one of these at B&Q yesterday, my brother at hand to guide me how to do it. Always been a bit fearful of them, and seeing them in all the supermarkets and shops now it was about time I had a go. Went to Morrisons today, and had another go, assistant there had to ....er.......assist me through the procedure, but reckon I could get used to the idea with a bit more practice. I always pay cash, and must admit seeing the machine swallow up £20 notes doesn't fill me with confidence, but there's no way I'm getting another credit card any time soon

I went into Leeds this morning,i payed a cheque in,by using a machine.It even gave me a photo copy of my paying in slip.Very quick it was.

When the self service checkout were first introduced at my local supermarket I put a full trolley load through. I attracted a large audience of employees to witness the momentous event.

We were still there the next morning.

I hate those things! It annoys when it tells me to put my item in the bag or tells me that there is an unidentified item in there. There isn't and it's in the bag already!

Yes. I've just cut the string on my tin can and string domestic intercom and resorted to the wireless alternative - shouting.

Outside Holborn tube is a small sainsbury and they have it down to a fine art. About 20 self service and its mainly small baskets for lunches etc but it's so fast when it's done right.

My most recent self checkout experience went something like this...

I scanned my bottle of wine and a red light started flashing. I waited for an assistant to come and give me permission to buy the bottle of wine... I continued waiting, and waiting, and waiting until i eventually left and bought a bottle of wine elsewhere.

I refuse to use the self service tills the way I see it is there are people there that are getting payed to work the tills so why should I do it for free
