They only used trained chickens in book...book....bookstores
They have frogs at my local book shop there very helpful and any book you ask about the frog has read it lol

I hate those things! It annoys when it tells me to put my item in the bag or tells me that there is an unidentified item in there. There isn't and it's in the bag already!
They do that to me. Every single time. I always end up swearing at the machine and someone (eventually) has to come and sort the damned thing out.
I decided after the last go that I'm not using one again until they work properly. And until they give you a discount for doing the work yourself.

If their costs go up or stay the same whilst competitors are reducing who do you think is going to pay? Supermarkets have no choice but to implement this technology.
Nobody is really reducing prices. A new model is coming in from lidl etc which is making the main players crap themselves but this is purely done to increase profits.

Agreed but ultimately if their costs are increasing - they have no choice but to raise prices.

I go to a self service checkout for speed, I certainly would not avoid one so that the people who work in the store have something to do.

Its the claimed weight of the item that flags it up with staff. I assume they put an incorrect weight on their most stolen items/mis scanned items. Morrisons tills don't do it very often but Tesco is a pain in the rear.

Aldi, Netto and Lidl cope very well without self service tills.

The Lidl and Aldi model is a little different. There are rarely any more than 2 checkouts open at a time, with a self service checkout system you need to have some manning it anyway - so whilst Tesco can have one person looking after 10 checkouts or more, it is not costs effective to do it for one or two checkouts in Lidl/Aldi.

I actually walked out of Aldi dumping my goods at the end of an aisle during lunch time as the queue was too long - if only they had self service checkouts. Although if they did, I bet they would be monitoring our scanning speed like they do for their employees.

I'll use them when I get a discount for doing so.

Until then I'll happily use a proper till with a human on and help pay their wages for providing me with a service

I shop in Aldi and Morrisons every week. Fastest till's; Aldi, no matter how big the queue. Slowest till, Morrison's, the one with Madge on. Most popular till, Morrison's, the one with Madge on. Here ends my survey.

I went into Leeds this morning,i payed a cheque in,by using a machine. It even gave me a photo copy of my paying in slip.Very quick it was.

It is amusing when the bolt new technology onto old like this. You are going to town with your cheque and they are reading it and copying it with their computer.

I write about two cheques per year now and find on line banking very easy.

With the self service checkout, I got stuck as I had an Aubergine and could not think how it was spelt to find it on the veg list. I am a bit dyslexic and could not think what letter it began with. A O or E.
